Cardsmiths Currency Series 5: Checklist, Set Breakdown, Pull Odds & What’s New

Cardsmiths Currency Series 5 is the largest and most structurally complex release in the Currency product line to date. The main checklist expands to 135 cards: 120 standard base cards and 15 short prints, nearly doubling the size of the earliest Currency sets. Alongside this expansion come new gemstone tiers, the introduction of non-serialised Topaz variants, and the 8 brand new Cryptoids.

Below is a factual overview of how Series 5 compares to earlier releases, what makes it different, and what the official pack odds tell us about its rarity distribution.

How Series 5 Fits Into the Growth of the Currency Line

Currency has grown steadily since Series 1, and Series 5 marks the most dramatic increase so far.

Series 1 launched with a 62-card main set: 60 standard cards and two short prints, which at the time used the “–A” suffix instead of today’s “–SP.” Series 2 stayed close in size with 64 total cards and four SPs. Series 3 expanded to a 70-card main set and introduced a much larger SP layer with ten SP cards. Series 4 continued the trend, growing the base to 70 normal cards plus ten SPs for a total of 80.

Series 5 is the first to exceed one hundred cards. The main checklist contains 120 normal base cards and 15 short prints, reaching 135 cards total. One card carries a “–SP2” suffix, something not seen in earlier releases. It is still not clear if this indicates a second rarity tier or simply a necessary choice to fit 3 alternative arts on a card.

While the new additions are mostly welcomed, many in the community start questioning the sustainability for collectors, especially amongst the completionist types.

Gemstones, Topaz Variants, and New Refractors

Two new serialised gemstone tiers debut in Series 5: Tanzanite /299 and Blue Topaz /199. Blue Topaz previously appeared only in Cardsmiths’ Space line, making this its first appearance in a Currency set.

Alongside these numbered gems, Series 5 also introduces four non-serialised Topaz cards: Mystic Topaz, Imperial Topaz, Pink Topaz, and Twilight Topaz (photos below). These cards are not numbered, and their print runs have not been disclosed. Early openings suggest they appear at a relatively low frequency, and the foil treatments make them quite appealing.

It is the first time multiple Topaz colourways have appeared together in a Currency release, and the first time non-serialised Topaz parallels have been part of the lineup.

Cryptoids: The Largest Wave Released So Far

Series 5 includes eight new Cryptoids, including Chupacabra and Wendigo. As in previous series, each cryptid appears in four forms: regular, Test Card, Prototype, and Artist Proof. Altogether this contributes 32 cryptid cards, making it the largest cryptid drop so far and a significant part of the series’ expanded checklist. The numbering has also switched from CP-N to CPT-N. Official Pull Odds for Series 5

Cardsmiths has published the pack odds for both Collector Boxes and Mega Boxes. These odds help illustrate how gemstone refractors, Meta Rares, and redemptions are distributed across formats.

Collector Box Pull Odds

  • Collector Parallel Rainbow Holofoil — 1:2 packs
  • Collector Parallel Crystal Sparkle Holofoil — 1:2 packs
  • Collector Parallel Iced Foil — 1:2 packs
  • Gemstone Refractor™ — 1:10 packs
  • Meta-Rare Refractor™ — 1:96 packs
  • Cryptocurrency Redemption — 1:96 packs

Mega Box Pull Odds

  • Collector Parallel Rainbow Holofoil — 1:3 packs
  • Collector Parallel Matrix Holofoil — 1:3 packs
  • Collector Parallel Iced Foil — 1:3 packs
  • Gemstone Refractor™ — 1:8 packs
  • Meta-Rare Refractor™ — 1:192 packs
  • Cryptocurrency Redemption — 1:192 packs

Across both formats, gemstone refractors remain the key mid-tier chase, while Meta Rares and redemptions sit at the top of the rarity hierarchy. Mega Boxes offer slightly better odds on gemstone refractors but have much tougher odds for Meta Rares and redemptions compared to Collector Boxes.

So all in all, Cardsmiths Currency Series 5 is the most ambitious instalment in the product line, with a larger checklist and expanded gemstone tiers. Whether you’re collecting casually or aiming for a full master set, Series 5 offers a wide range of chase formats and parallel types to explore.
